It’s not about giving money, clothing, or even food, just treat people with kindness. We have no Idea what other people are going through. The mind is a very powerful tool! While watching this short clip please send these two some happy good thoughts or prayers… : )
Looking inside it’s hard to imagine 7 people being inside at once. But this family of 7 has managed to do it for the last 6 years and counting. I sat and talked with 3 of the 7 family members. The 3 other siblings were in school and the step father wasn’t there at the time. The biological father was shot and killed a few years ago while working as a food delivery person. The neighbor did most of the talking for the family since they didn’t speak English. After sitting and talking for a while I walked to the store and got some bread, peanut butter, jelly, water and Pringles. Continue reading “Eating with a homeless family of 7 in Cebu, Philippines”
Today while walking around I stumbled upon a burger place named Backstory Burgers and Café. I was starving and burgers sounded very good at the time. I felt very welcomed immediately walking into the restaurant. I was greeted with smiling faces and a menu. I was suggested to try the burger brunch meal. It came with a burger, fries, a drink and your choice between lasagna and carbonara pasta with white sauce. I chose the Carbonara. I met these talented young musicians, Mariel and Hawaii on my way back from recording my first song in a recording studio, so I was definitely feeling the music vibes. They were raising money for their music school to purchase musical instruments. I told them if they performed some of their favorite songs for me I would donate to their cause. They played 2 songs I knew, Perfect by Ed Sheeran and You’ve got a friend by James Taylor. They also played 2 Filipino songs, I didn’t know what the heck they were singing about but it sure sounded nice. It’s hard to escape the heat sometimes here in the Philippines. Especially for those that don’t have a home. Today I spent the day walking around giving people some food and water. This is Evonne. She has no place to call home. She moves from street corner to street corner depending on where the shade is. You can see from the video below even sitting in the shade wasn’t much of a break from the intense Philippine heat. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Evonne and get to know her a little. Sometimes we didn’t quite understand each other but that doesn’t matter. Meet A Family That Lost Their Home In A Fire Continue reading “Walking around Cebu City giving food and water to people”
Today while walking around Cebu City, Philippines I met a homeless family that lost their home in a fire two years ago. Since then they have been living anywhere they can find. From sidewalks, under tress, on benches, to old abandoned buildings and everywhere in between. It’s one thing if it was just the adults but they have two small children ages 2 and 6. I have nieces and nephews the same age. I can’t imagine kids that young not having a house to go to and sometimes going days at a time without having a meal.
Today some kids came up to me asking for donations so they could get some basketball gear. I’m pretty frugal with my money so I told them if they showed me where they played I’d see what I think they needed. To me there’s nothing cooler than seeing homemade basketball courts, like backboards and rims made out of all sorts of materials.
Air Force City Park in Angeles City, Philippines is a nice FREE spot to visit for a few hours to soak up some history. It also has shaded areas to have a picnic or have a little nap. A great trip for a family with lots of space for kids to run and numerous jungle gyms for them to play. If you don’t want to pack your own food they have a snack bar inside with refreshments. A good time to go is early morning or later in the day, 4-5pm when it is a little cooler. Continue reading “Angeles City, Philippines – Air Force City Park”
I got the chance to have a chat with Renz Viaje a BMX flatland rider while walking on Makati Ave. at The Ayala Triangle Gardens in Metro Manila, Philippines.
Ayala Triangle Gardens is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Metro Manila. You never know who you are going to run into. From walkers, runners, and dancers, to skateboarders and BMX riders. It’s a little mix of everything. This guy was super cool and talked with me for a little while and told me where to find the best places to visit, like to surf in Siargao see forest in Mindanao mountains in Baguio City and a bunch of other good stuff. Philippines has pretty much everything. It has over 7000 islands and endless things to do and see. Except skiing, if you want to ski go to the North Pole. Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati, Philippines is a perfect little area for jogging, sightseeing, dog walking and skateboarding! It seems like whenever I find the best places and meet the coolest people I am always lost. It holds true to this situation as well. I love the city but after a while I start to crave some greenery and I got what I wanted when I stumbled upon this little gem. One minute I was surrounded by skyscrapers and sounds of honking horns and the next I was surrounded by this.
