Are people friendly in Indonesia?

Be warned. If you are planning to visit Indonesia anytime soon you be surrounded by some of the nicest and welcoming people out there. It’s impossible to walk anywhere in Indonesia and not have at least one person greet you with a smile, a handshake, or my favorite is people sharing their food with you. You may also get asked a few times to take a picture with someone, watch the VIDEO to see what I mean : ) .. I spent the day walking around Kota Tua Jakarta “Jakarta Old Town”. There is so much going on you can easily spend the whole day exploring. There’s site seeing, street foods, checking out the sidewalk sales, palm reading, snakes and more food. You could come and spend the whole day just eating without your tongue getting bored, at least mine didn’t. Continue reading “Are people friendly in Indonesia?”

Eating with a homeless family of 7 in Cebu, Philippines

family eating in makeshift home
Looking inside it’s hard to imagine 7 people being inside at once. But this family of 7 has managed to do it for the last 6 years and counting. I sat and talked with 3 of the 7 family members. The 3 other siblings were in school and the step father wasn’t there at the time. The biological father was shot and killed a few years ago while working as a food delivery person. The neighbor did most of the talking for the family since they didn’t speak English. After sitting and talking for a while I walked to the store and got some bread, peanut butter, jelly, water and Pringles.

Eat at Backstory Burgers and Cafe to make your mouth happy

restaurant with open sign

Today while walking around I stumbled upon a burger place named Backstory Burgers and Café. I was starving and burgers sounded very good at the time. I felt very welcomed immediately walking into the restaurant. I was greeted with smiling faces and a menu. I was suggested to try the burger brunch meal. It came with a burger, fries, a drink and your choice between lasagna and carbonara pasta with white sauce. I chose the Carbonara. Musicians Raising Money for MAD (Music Against Drugs) in Philippines

I met these talented young musicians, Mariel and Hawaii on my way back from recording my first song in a recording studio, so I was definitely feeling the music vibes. They were raising money for their music school to purchase musical instruments. I told them if they performed some of their favorite songs for me I would donate to their cause. They played 2 songs I knew, Perfect by Ed Sheeran and You’ve got a friend by James Taylor. They also played 2 Filipino songs, I didn’t know what the heck they were singing about but it sure sounded nice. Walking around Cebu City giving food and water to people

It’s hard to escape the heat sometimes here in the Philippines. Especially for those that don’t have a home. Today I spent the day walking around giving people some food and water. This is Evonne. She has no place to call home. She moves from street corner to street corner depending on where the shade is. You can see from the video below even sitting in the shade wasn’t much of a break from the intense Philippine heat. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Evonne and get to know her a little. Sometimes we didn’t quite understand each other but that doesn’t matter.                 Meet A Family That Lost Their Home In A Fire

Eating with a homeless family that lost their house in a fire

Today while walking around Cebu City, Philippines I met a homeless family that lost their home in a fire two years ago. Since then they have been living anywhere they can find. From sidewalks, under tress, on benches, to old abandoned buildings and everywhere in between. It’s one thing if it was just the adults but they have two small children ages 2 and 6. I have nieces and nephews the same age. I can’t imagine kids that young not having a house to go to and sometimes going days at a time without having a meal.
